a little word
re: our move
This is the order that resulted from the chaos
that has been our lives for the past ten weeks.
It looks so innocent, neatly piled there, patiently waiting for recycling pickup.
But lord the havoc it reeked in my balanced, peaceful, Enneagram 9 life!

We had decided to list our pretty Bickley's Pond house for sale sometime next Spring. My heart had trouble with this, but my head knew it to be best. We no longer need all the space; the yard requires a lot of upkeep; we want to spend more time in the mountains.
And anyway, next Spring is a whole new year away!
And then my sweet husband got an itch to do it now, to just "test the waters" and "try out the market." He was very persuasive, my goodness he was, and I thought okay, I guess, since who house-shops in the suburbs in the fall after school has already started?
Well I reckon you know the rest. In no time flat we had an offer, and in HIS INFINITE WISDOM the GOOD LORD made sure to keep me wildly distracted as reality came hurling toward us. We were in Canada, and I was learning to fly fish, and Rockies had overtaken my senses and I was overcome by the majesty and I could hardly breathe realizing how gorgeous this world is and how much there is to be explored and how there is no time at all to waste. And just like that we had a deal! Just that fast! And it didn't seem scary or overwhelming or even real because I was not even in the country.
But we came home, and it got real, and when the details were determined and the papers were signed we were left with about one month to PACK UP and BE OUT.
AND THEN THIS LITTLE MIRACLE CAME ALONG. There happened to be a pretty and perfect-for-us ranch-style house in a pretty part of Columbia that was AVAILABLE NOW. And lo and behold my sweet daughter, Eliza--who had been living away--had just moved to a house not hardly a mile away.
We are here now! The boxes are--for the most part--empty! And while we are nowhere near settled (and it feels like we may never be!) I am mighty, mighty grateful to be on this side of October. We can already tell we will be most happy here, and if nothing else the entire overwhelming experience has reminded me nothing in the world matters more than the love and care of friends and family and neighbors. YOU MEAN SO MUCH TO ME, to us both, every single one of you who has offered a prayer or a kind wish or some sort of encouragement, virtually or cellular or in person. Help sorting / considering / deciding. And packing, the endless, endless packing. The weekends girlfriends WHISKED me away (X 2), a modicum of sanity restored! The delivery of fresh flowers, and homemade dinners, and the unexpected joy of a big surprise birthday party right in the midst of it all.
Nothing matters more than kindness and thoughtfulness and generosity of spirit, of this I have been heartily reminded. And if it took this crazy move (which just about did me in I AM NOT EVEN KIDDING), I would have to say it was worth it. :)

ps: It is my intention that The Daily Grace and Grace Notes will get back to a more regular schedule now that things have started to settle a bit. Thank you for your patience over these past several weeks. Here are a couple of quick little joys, until then!

ON POINT. I really enjoyed the audio version of this popular new novel which I listened to while packing. "From a New York Times best-selling author, psychotherapist, and national advice columnist, a hilarious, thought-provoking, and surprising new book that takes us behind the scenes of a therapist's world--where her patients are looking for answers (and so is she)."

We have been clearing out our house, a daunting task that is taking a great emotional toll. And still there are the sweet, sweet moments.
