Before I send my Grace Notes newsletter tomorrow, I want to alert you to the fact that the audiobook for That Which Binds Us has been recently released and I am extremely unhappy with the production. The book has been recorded with an AI voice and in my opinion, the unnatural, robotic tone does a deep disservice to the people and voices my novel seeks to honor.

Please know I had nothing to do with its production. I happened to come upon the audiobook listed for sale on Amazon, cringed to see the narrator is AI, listened to the preview and IMMEDIATELY contacted my publisher to ask that the offering be removed. I'm happy to say the publisher agreed to comply with that request. However, upon further study, we learned that the terms of the contract (which is between the publisher and Amazon) require that the audiobook be listed on both sites for 90 days.

I'll have more to say regarding this particular situation as well as the larger moral and ethical issues presented by AI's intrusion into the book publishing industry. But for now, PLEASE DO NOT BUY THIS AUDIOBOOK.

PS: I should say a new version of my audiobook is in progress and I am told it will be narrated by a human being. As with this first version (and per my publishing contract), I don't have any control over that production and I also don't know when it will be available. As I learn more, I will be sure to share.
