Emily, Rachel, and Life’s Great Joy

It popped up there in my Facebook feed, a status update so unassuming I could have scrolled right past it with hardly a nod. Except this was from my friend, Sara: mother of 5-year-old twin sisters Emily and Rachel; Facebook status-updater who never disappoints.

(And during this Sara Series, I knew my friends were vacationing at the beach. So there was also that.)

The girls spent all day riding the ocean waves

was the opener on this update, and I could already tell it was going to be good.

They started out on surf boards—strap around the wrist of course—and Emily called it “REAL surfing for REAL.”

(I have a thing or two to learn from that girl, is what I thought.) Sara went on in her update:

Then they got on big inner tubes, and the real fun began. Rachel stood up, threw her arms in the air and yelled:

“I’VE BEEN WAITING MY WHOLE LIFE FOR THIS!!!”

I can’t think of a single thing to add to that most magnificent of professions.

Hi. I’m Cathy.

This is a blog about writing, creative living, and grace in the everyday. It’s my hope this little spot on the internet will be for you a place of quiet and reflection, a source for inspiration, and a reminder there’s beauty all around—we simply need to keep our hearts open to see it. Thank you for being here with me.
