Summer Love

Eliza and Jillian

It is my grand joy to have sweet Eliza home with me this summer.

It is our last together in the same house, of that I am quite certain. The world will call, and she will go.

But for now, I love pulling in and seeing her car in the driveway; love hearing her bang around upstairs when she’s getting ready for work; love seeing her laundry piled up in the laundry room. I love finding her “chillin'” on the sofa while debating the pros and cons of going running in the heat (for the record, she nearly always does). I love getting a mid-afternoon text suggesting “breakfast for dinner” and the fact that she’ll go anywhere, anytime, for ice cream.

I love that she loves her friends, that she misses them desperately, that she knows exactly how many days until she goes back to Clemson to begin her Junior year.

I love that she couldn’t let her BFF head off to Oxford without one more hug goodbye, so she made the drive up I-77, to Jillian.

I love that she’s here, my sweet Eliza.

I love that, for now, she’s mine.

Hi. I’m Cathy.

This is a blog about writing, creative living, and grace in the everyday. It’s my hope this little spot on the internet will be for you a place of quiet and reflection, a source for inspiration, and a reminder there’s beauty all around—we simply need to keep our hearts open to see it. Thank you for being here with me.
