Perhaps it is the sheer insistence of the little creature. Or her immense cute. Maybe it is the wisdom born of age—there were many, many times, as the working Mom of a toddler, I was occupied with other things.
Or perhaps it is simply the small margin of space allowed by our new 2020 “at home” lives.
Whatever the reason, yesterday, in the midst of a Let’s Get This Show on the Road frenzy of Christmas decorating, I dropped every wreath, garland, box and bag, took a wet seat on the wet leaves in the back yard, and I spent an hour playing with our new puppy, Stella Jean.
I threw the stick and Stella fetched. She chewed; I pried and opened and dug mass after mass of moss and bark and leaves from her (piercing) puppydog mouth. She climbed onto my lap and she licked and loved and I loved right back, rubbing her belly and her back and telling her over and over what good, sweet girl she is, how happy we are she is in our lives.
Then we did it again.
And again. And again.
The endless delight—OMG IT’S A SQUIRREL!—reminded me what it’s like when everything in the world is new, when every object is exciting, when everything you see in every space around you is brimming with possibility, ready to be explored, ready to be celebrated.
And that’s the wonder of Christmas, don’t you think? Feeling the awesome. Finding the joy!
Thank you, Stella Jean, for the fun reminder!

30 Days of Joy
She is adorable! That face! ??
Before I even read this yesterday, I decided to take time to “play” a little in the studio and not take myself too seriously. I loved reading this reflection. That lighthearted feeling must’ve been in the air!
I am so happy for your studio playtime! Thanks for letting me know. I feel inspired!

YES! XXOO
She is adorable!
Thanks, Nancy. We are smitten!
Oh yes my JOY . I had the same thoughts just moving pillows of Autumn and orange Gourds and gradually bringing in the silver lights of the Christmas season sprinkled in with Azure blue. I realized this was playing with color just as much as if I had painted a canvas. Joy to the world
What a beautiful way to play! XXOO
