Without a moment’s hesitation, I can name the very best thing about writing this blog.
It’s the grace that pours on me, from you.
Most often, this grace seems to come out of nowhere—a comment on a post that strikes a deep, deep chord, an email filled with salve for a soul grown weary. Most miraculous of all, nearly every time, the source of such grace is someone who has no idea how profoundly their words will resonate.
I faced a tough situation last week, circumstances that asked that I not only look for grace, but carry it with me. I was overwhelmed and afraid. I wondered if I could even do it. And then I received this note from my dear friend, Teresa.
Feathers will fall.
That’s His promise.
Within moments of her email, my computer pinged again and I clicked to find an email from my friend, Tim, who sent another phenomenal email to me last fall. (Yes, if ever anyone can put things into perspective, he can.)
28-30 “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”
Tears began to fall.
The next morning, as he was cleaning my car for the journey I was about to make, my sweet husband walked into the kitchen and said: Hey babe—just found this in your driver’s seat. Thought you might want it.
(I am not kidding.)
And this from my friend, Brenda.
And then this from my friend, Jennifer, on my Facebook page.
Question: Does He leave you feathers as a reminder that He’ll make a soft bed for you to land if you fall? Or is it so He can teach you to fly?
Isn’t it remarkable? Do you see what I mean? All these feathers, all these reminders of grace, just when I needed them most?
How blessed am I. How grateful I am that you are there, taking this journey with me.
Thanks be to God.
You should write a sister blog! (Or at least send me photos so I can post them in the “finds” section. I do cherish those.) Or post photos to the Daily Grace Facebook page!
I know what you mean—I always seem to find a little reminder of love and grace just at the moment I need it most.
Thank you for sharing, my friend!
Cathy – I just love reading your blog. I think I need to write a “sister” blog as my feather activity has been picking up recently. Kristin was swimming in the ocean at Sullivans on Saturday and stopped to dig in the sand. As I walked over to her, a beautiful white (wet) feather washed up right next to her sand bucket as if to say, “I am here with you. I am here with her.” Wonderful blessing. A few weeks before that, also at the beach, I was chasing Kristin near the playground at IOP. She stopped behind some bushes trying to hide from me, and right next to her was a single white feather in the grass. Another feeling of “I am with you always.” I don’t know why the feathers find us, but I am thankful for them each and every time they appear.
